WEIRTON - Plans are coming together for the third-annual Weirton Hall of Fame induction ceremony set to take place at the Serbian American Cultural Center at 2 p.m. on May 1.
Tickets are available for $25 a piece from Ward 7 Councilman Max Fijewski, committee member Julie Alatis, the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Weirton Municipal Building.
The Weirton Hall of Fame Committee recently announced members of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2011.
This year's class will include Burdell Lowery "Jimmy" Carey, Robert DeLafayette Jeter Jr. and Eugene "Gene" Trosch for the category of Sports and Athletics; Ronald Greer, John "Jack" Stankiewicz and Don Donell for the category of Public Service.
Hall of Fame inductees are individuals with outstanding accomplishments following the city's incorporation in 1947 and must have been a city resident for at least five years.
Individuals could be nominated into one of six categories: philanthropy; public service; music and fine arts; education and religion; sports and athletics; and business, industry and professionals.
Individual and group plaques are being made for presentation at the ceremony as well as to hang in the Millsop Community Center, which will be the home of the Weirton Hall of Fame.
Information is also being gathered for the touch-screen kiosk that will be available in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center.
