Happy Friday, Wintersville.
As you will see in today's scene, the Indian Creek Local School District's Foundation will hold its eighth-annual reverse drawing at 7 p.m. March 10 at Wintersville Elementary School.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the Foundation, its mission is as follows: "To advance the quality of public education by providing charitable, supplemental resources to encourage, promote, and provide for the students of the Indian Creek Local School District through a partnership between the community and the public schools."
The Foundation was formed in 2003 and only holds one fundraiser a year. The profits generated through the Foundation help support special school projects and to develop new programs by supplementing government funds received by the district.
The Foundation relies on community support, and donations can be made in several ways, including:
Outright gifts - Cash or other assets.
Memorial gifts - Cash or other assets in memory of the deceased.
Deterred gift - Bequests, gift annuities, life insurance or charitable trusts.
Incremental gifts - Gifts made in planned stages over a specific period of time.
Contribution categories include:
General - For student/faculty enrichment programs.
Fine and performing arts - For music and performing and fine arts programs.
Academic Excellence - For promotion of student academic development.
Capital Improvement - For improvement of facilities and upgrading of equipment.
Scholarship - To supplement the high school scholarship fund.
The reverse drawing profits basically benefit a scholarship fund for graduating seniors.
A ticket donation is $50 and guests have the chance to win $2,500 as a grand prize, as well as various door prizes that will be drawn throughout the evening.
This is a great event to help benefit the school of the community that you live in. I am sure the school officials hope to see a lot of students and parents attend the event; however, it would be nice to see people with no ties to the school supporting the district.
Not only do you have the chance to win the grand prize as well as a number of other goodies, you also will receive a fabulous dinner as well as the chance to network and communicate with a variety of great people.
For information about the event, contact drawing Co-Chairperson Sophie Schoolcraft at (740) 535-9161 or (740) 535-0095 or Indian Creek High School Principal Steve Cowser at (740) 264-1163.
Have a great weekend, and remember to get out there and help support the Creek.
