GILL, Samuel M. Sr., 80, of County Road 56, Toronto, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 in Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio.
Sam was born Sept. 25, 1929 in Jefferson County 16 Ridge, son of the late Charles and Eleanor Critser Gill.
Sam retired from Weirton Steel Corp., where he was a welder and also a welding instructor. He was a life- long member of the National Rifle Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Workman; and his two brothers, Charles and Clifford Gill.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Betty R. (Wayt) Gill, whom he married on Nov. 20, 1948; his children, James C. (Virginia) Gill of Florida, Sandra E. Blischak of Virginia, and Samuel M. (Kathy) Gill Jr., of Richmond; two sisters, Donna (Ronald) Ferguson of Steubenville, and Jacquelyn (Howard) Bowers Jr. of Bloomingdale; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the J. E. Foster Funeral Homes, Inc., 701 Findley St., Toronto, where Sam's Life Celebration Service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Seminarian Samuel Monte will officiate the service, and burial will follow in Richmond Union Cemetery.
