Escaped inmate nabbed in southwest Ohio

July 9, 2014

CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities say they have captured an inmate who escaped from a southwest Ohio jail last week by tricking staff members and walking out.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Christopher Bowden was captured without incident Tuesday night at his sister's Cincinnati apartment.

He'd been on the run and the subject of an intense manhunt since July 1 when he assumed the identity of another inmate and walked out. He'd been sentenced to 10 years in prison following a recent aggravated robbery conviction.

Deputies also arrested four people— including Bowden's sister — and charged them with hiding Bowden, who now is facing escape charges.

Jail officials say they are reviewing policies and procedures that allowed Bowden to escape.
