MARIETTA - An open house is planned to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of James and Ruth Schoonover. The celebration will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 24 at the Faith United Methodist Church's social room with their children as hosts.
The Schoonovers were married July 30, 1960, in the Alexandria United Methodist Church, Alexandria, Va., by the Rev. J. William McCombs.
She is the daughter of the late Genevia and Ross E. Miller, and he is the son of the late Mable and James C. Schoonover.
Schoonover was employed by the Dunlope Funeral Home for 33 years. He served the Mingo Junction United Methodist Church; Reinersville Charge, which consisted of Dunganon, Keith, Reinersville and Smith's Chapel Churches; the Somerton charge, which was the Malaga, Mount Zion and Pleasant Ridge churches; and the New Matamoras charge, where they served the Brownsville, New Matamoras and Salem Hall churches, where he retired in 2001.
His wife worked for the Barnesville Nursing Home from 1987 to 1990 and was then employed by the Marietta Memorial Hospital as a home health nurse's aide and also in the sterile processing unit. She retired in 2008.
The couple have a daughter, Cassandra Hasley of Marietta, and a son, James, of Toronto. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
