Cancer survivors walk opening lap

June 16, 2010

WINTERSVILLE - Cancer survivors walking the opening lap at the 16th-annual Steubenville Area Relay for Life sponsored by the Jefferson County Unit of the American Cancer Society should report to the Robert Kettlewell Memorial Stadium on the campus of Indian Creek High School in Wintersville by 5:30 p.m. Friday to sign in and receive their T-shirt.

The opening lap will begin at 6:15 p.m. after the opening ceremony gets under way at 6 p.m.

Approximately 130 cancer survivors have pre-registered to walk but survivors who have not pre-registered can still do so, according to Deb Kovach, relay chairman. Relay committee member Patty Albert will read the survivor roll call as survivors make their way around the initial first lap.

Following the initial lap, survivors are treated to a reception and birthday celebration underneath the stadium with food provided by area businesses. Survivors participating in the opening lap will be eligible in a drawing for a $250 Kroger gift card.

For information, contact Kovach, relay chair, at (740) 264-2032.
