Jefferson relay sets final meeting

STEUBENVILLE - The schedule of events for the 15th-annual Relay for Life sponsored by the Jefferson County Unit of the American Cancer Society will be among items discussed when team captains and volunteers gather at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the final regular planning meeting.

The meeting will be held in the medical staff conference room at Trinity Medical Center East.

The relay will be held at the Robert Kettlewell Memorial Stadium on the campus of Indian Creek High School in Wintersville, beginning at 6 p.m. June 19 with cancer survivors walking the ceremonial opening lap. The relay continues until closing ceremonies at noon June 20 with the presentation of awards.

The goal is to raise $112,00 for cancer research, patient services, education and advocacy.

The relay will feature numerous on-site fundraisers, including the sale of luminaria for a donation of $10 in honor or in memory of a loved one's battle with cancer; food; an auction at 8 p.m. June 19; a Chinese auction; the third-annual all-team yard sale from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 20; and a cornhole tournament beginning at midnight for $5 a player.
