Chester stabbing arrest made

From staff reports
POSTED: January 12, 2009

EAST LIVERPOOL - The main suspect in the New Year's Day stabbings of two men at Chuggers Nite Club on U.S. Route 30 was found and arrested Sunday morning.

Deonte Maurice Howard, 20, was found hiding behind the bathroom door of an apartment at 1917 Smithfield St. in East Liverpool, according to officials.

The apartment, owned by the Columbiana County Metropolitan Housing Authority, was surrounded by East Liverpool and St. Clair Township police officers after information was received that Howard was present there, according to officials.

According to police reports, Katie Riley answered the door, and stated that Howard was not in the apartment when police asked.

The officers heard noises coming from inside the apartment and began a felony fugitive search of the residence, according to reports.

Howard was found and taken into custody without further incident, according to reports.

Riley was arrested for obstruction of official business and was served a trespass notice, as she was not the tenant of the apartment, officials said.

Howard is accused of stabbing Eric Robert Wilson of East Liverpool and David Peachey of Wellsville during a fight at the night club on Jan. 1.

Deputies were called to the night club at approximately 2:30 a.m., and while en route to the scene, information was received that stabbings had taken place.

Wilson and Peachey were taken to area hospitals but have since been released, according to officials.

According to East Liverpool Municipal Court and county court records, Howard also was indicted in July for felonious assault with a jury trial set for April 14 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.
