Jefferson Community College's annual community yard sale occurs Sept. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The popular sale features all the typical items found in yard sales - household goods, used clothes, knick knacks, homemade crafts and treats.
Proceeds from the rental of space benefit the student groups at the college.
The sale is set in the college's Sunset Boulevard parking lot. Admission is free.
Shrine Club dinner Wednesday
The Steubenville Shrine Club will hold its monthly dinner at Aladdin Land Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The menu includes salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, salad, dessert and drink for a minimum $6 donation.
Harrison band attends band show
The Harrison Central High School Band attended the Akron Bands in the Rubber Bowl and played at halftime with the Akron University band Saturday. Four high school bands participated in the Rubber Bowl band, first rehearsing with the university band before performing on the football field.
The jazz band will be playing at the October Fest to be held at Sally Buffalo Park as well.
The band stopped at the Golden Corral on the way home from Akron, according to Mary Jo Fisher, band president.
Farm Bureau group meets Tuesday
The Jefferson County Farm Bureau women's promotion and education committee will meet Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for a breakfast meeting at Lancelots. Mary Ellen Grafton will be in charge. Friendship Pennies will be collected for a community project.
A discussion will be held on where the Farm Bureau approved book "Clarabelle the Cow" will be distributed, about the adopt-a-teacher selection and to discuss placemats.
Sisters of Garibaldi hold meetings
Sisters of Garibaldi Society held its July meeting in the Garibaldi Lodge hall with Lucy Takach presiding.
Hostesses were Anna DeVenanzo and Catarino Torini.
Prizewinners were Gilda Carson, Filamena DiCarlantonio, Ang Kurcina, Pauline Thomaselli and Yolanda Minnella.
The August meeting also was held in the hall. Anna and Italo DiVananzo won the bocce tournament.
Plans for the Halloween covered-dish party will be completed at the September meeting.
Hostesses were Rita Ficca, Mary Santantelo and Vicky Rosa.
Prizewinners were Joyce Parrish, Santa Tripodi, Angelina Kurcina, Dora Ferrelli, Gilda Carson and Mary Arlia.
Benefit luncheon planned for Bishop
A soup and sandwich dinner and silent auction will be held Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to benefit Lillian Bishop of Scio.
Bishop is recovering from colon cancer and has no health insurance.
The dinner will be held at Scio United Methodist Church, which is sponsoring the benefit with the Bethlehem Walk Committee and Country Cousins 4-H Club.
Follansbee alumni meet Tuesday
The Follansbee All School Alumni Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Follansbee branch library. Final planning will be made for Christmas in the Park.
Weir High class to have luncheon
Weir High Class of 1944 is holding a luncheon Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Froelich's Classic Corner. It is open to classmates and spouses.
