O’Leary to present Weirton book review

Nancy Ellen Rice O’Leary, state chairman of the Education Department of the GFWC-WV, will present a book review for the Weirton Woman’s Club Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williams Country Club.
O’Leary will review “Hidden Power” by Kati Marton.
The book reveals the ways in which presidential marriages have affected the tone, character, and policies of administrations from Woodrow and Edith Wilson to George W. and Laura Bush.
An active clubwoman, O’Leary is president-elect of the auxiliary of Wheeling Hospital. She is a trustee of the Woman’s Club of Wheeling and chairman of the History Project for the Northern District of the GFWC-WV. O’Leary is a former elementary teacher in Ohio County. She and her husband, Jack, reside in Wheeling;

Dragoun, Hamill, win bridge tourney
Joseph Dragoun and Carl Hamill won the 2008 Leah Greenberg Memorial Club Championship bridge game held by Ohio Valley Duplicate Bridge Club at Martin Luther King Recreation Center with Dragoun directing.
Estelle Shire has sponsored the tournament since 1987 in memory of her mother, an avid bridge player who was very active in local duplicate; bridge games for many years. In addition to the trophy, Shire has provided pastry treats each year.
“First overall’ winners names are inscribed on the trophy. Their names are added to those of previous winners on the memorial championship plaque. They share ownership for a year. Extra points from ACBL are awarded to the winners.
Other winners were:
First, Dragoun and Hamill, first; second, James Slater and Diane Slater, second; third, Bessie Chijner and Mollie Rogers, third; and Billie Kirk and Joanne Mahlie, fourth.
Anderson named student ambassador
Randy Anderson, 13, of Mason, grandson of James and Margaret Haynes of Steubenville, has been selected for the Student Ambassador Program, which will take him to Belgium, Ireland, England and France.
Randy’s mother, Ruby Haynes Anderson, is a former Steubenville resident.
He is a Mason Junior High School pupil.
Littlejohn to attend Air Force seminar
Arabia Littlejohn, a Steubenville High School student, has been selected as one of two Ohio students to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy Summer Seminar to be held June 8 through June 13 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The letter notifying Arabia of her selection said the seminar increases science, engineering, math and physical skills and gives participants the opportunity to experience the academy’s facilities and learn about life as a cadet.
Brooke class reunion July 13
The Brooke High School Class of 1973 reunion has been scheduled for July 13 at St. Francis Center in Follansbee.
A mixer will be held at the Garibaldi Center July 12 to coincide with the Follansbee Community Days celebration. More details will be announced by mail to alumni with updated addresses.

Church plans choir fest
United Methodist Church of the Cross, state Route 43, East Springfield, will hold a Choir Fest Sunday at 6 p.m. At least four choirs will perform and Rudy Hawk will be featured on the steel guitar. A fellowship period will be held after the concert.
Scrapbooking class Wednesday
Shop at Lisa’s, Create A Room Plaza, Wintersville, is offering a scrapbooking class for Doddle Templates Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. with instructor Riekki Benham of Brazzill Scrapbooking Co. He also operates a scrapbook retail store in the Metro Detroit Area in Michigan.
Cost of the class is $15, which includes all materials. Students must supply their own adhesive, scissors and paper trimmer. Interested candidates must RSVP in advance and submit payment by today. For information, call (740) 264.2022.

AMVETS Post 275 will elect officers Wednesday at a 4:30 p.m. meeting in the War Memorial Building.
Club to hold garage sale
Mount Pleasant Garden Club will hold a garage sale June 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on township Road 108A, off state Route 250 in Pleasant Grove. Signs will be posted.
Miscellaneous items and plants will be available.
Autism Support Group to meet
The newly formed Autism Support Group for parents and family members of children of the Autism Spectrum will meet Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Origin Gym, 129 Reichart Ave., Wintersville.The group has not decided on a permanent meeting date or site.
