Mini relay slated for WednesdayMay 13, 2008 - From staff reports
BRILLIANT — Buckeye North Middle School will host its mini Relay for Life on Wednesday on the walking track behind the middle school, and the public is encouraged to attend and participate.
The event will begin at 12:30 p.m., and many activities are planned, according to organizers, who said last year the entire student body participated in the event. “This year, we would like to again invite the community to participate. It is great to see young and old working together to support the American Cancer Society’s effort to stamp out this terrible disease,” said Rhonda Hinton, one of the relay’s promoters. “Anyone may walk to honor a loved one who is fighting cancer or in memory of a loved one who has passed from cancer. The first lap will be a survivors’ lap for all cancer survivors. We hope once again the community will support our efforts and show up to walk with the students,” Hinton said. Refreshments will be available for purchase, including hot dogs, sloppy joes, pepperoni rolls, baked goods, pop and snacks. Games and drawings will be held throughout the day. Prizes will be awarded. A Ms. Relay Contest also will be conducted among participants. Students collecting the most donations will receive first-, second- and third-place trophies in grade levels sixth through eighth. |
