William T. Shanahan Sr.

SHANAHAN, William T., Sr., 90, of Toronto, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, Ohio. He waited 30 years to be with his beloved wife, Frances.
He was born October 3, 1917, in Steubenville, a son of the late Dennis A. and Anna Foley Shanahan.
Bill was a Catholic and attended St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church of Steubenville.
His memberships include lifetime member, Toronto Knights of Columbus Council No. 2187; Toronto American Legion Post No. 86; Toronto V.F.W. Post No. 6906; Toronto Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1276; and Dyer Country Club, Toronto.
Bill was a WWII U.S. Army veteran of the North Burma Campaign, having helped construct the Ledo Road that started in India through Burma to China during the war.
He was retired from the National Steel Co., Weirton Steel Division, Weirton, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by wife, Frances M. Naughtrip Shanahan, who passed away in 1978; two brothers, James and John Shanahan; and three sisters, Mary and Barbara Shanahan and Helen Durbin.
His survivors are two sons, William T. “Tom” Shanahan, Jr. of Toronto and Timothy J. Shanahan of Toronto; and granddaughter, Sally M. Scott and husband, Justo, both of whom are stationed in Guam with the U.S. Air Force.
Friends and family will gather for visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main Street, Toronto. 740-537-1234 or 800-588-1446.
The Toronto Knights of Columbus will have a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and there will be a Vigil Service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Friends and family will gather at the funeral home Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. to go to St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Steubenville, where there will be a Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m., with Monsignor George Yontz as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville.
There will be Full Military Graveside Honors by the Toronto American Legion at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 425 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, OH 43952.
