SPEEDING?!?!? Ohio's roads average about twenty (20) fatalities per week, but only one is on a rural interstate. Most weekends are fatality-free on (now) 70-mph rural interstates, including most *holiday* weekends! BY FAR rural interstates are Ohio's safest rural roads. The reasons are obvious: interstates eliminate the common causes of crashes, such as crossover conflicts at intersections; head-on collisions with adjacent, opposing traffic; and roadside hazards like trees, telephone poles, curves, and sheer drop-offs. Eliminating common causes of crashes and delays improves travel times, safety and fuel-efficiency. That WIN-WIN-WIN is why we build interstates. Raising the speed limit on rural interstates improves travel times for long-distances travelers and tourists. And allows law enforcement to focus to the far more dangerous roads. Enjoy the 70 mph safely, but be extra careful on those other roads!
