I was also told(yelled at 4 asking) the day I went for a dog that they did not do vet care or bath the dogs unless it is injured.Otherwise its the persons adopting job to vet animal. They lie if they are saying they give care to all animals.

And, Bill when you refer to a vet being "on-staff" do you mean someone onsite? There is no one on site. Dr. DellaPenna practices in PA but lives in the area. She comes in to spay and neuter cats now and then.

To BillG1224 Yes, smoke and mirrors. Dr. DellaPenna spays and neuters cats. The Humane Society contract is for care of the cats. Dogs are the responsibility of the county. Even I once believed what you believe. Then I did my homework and found out otherwise.

SO... I go back on their page to Sept. 13, 2012, past tons of dogs and cats looking healthy, being cared for. the next group of pics of the vet working on a white/tabby cat. The current pictures are the same vet working on a black cat. I suppose smoke and mirrors are to blame.

I am not seeing any basis in fact for your implied conspiracies. I am seeing dogs and cats being cared for and adopted.

Bill...regarding the photo of the vet...a few months back the shelter had a vet come in to care for the cats. That photo was in the newspaper and also posted on the JCHS Facebook page. They claim all animals were vetted. Old photo Bill with a large dose of smoke and mirrors.

Yes, Bill. My letter as well as laura's were both sent by e-mail to Ross Gallabrese on April 10, 2013 all prior to the seizure of those dogs. Both letters were in regard to the allegations of abuses at the shelter which the county commissioners refuse to address but, instead to turn the county shelter over to a private group to run. My tax dollars did not pay for that and I feel that an experienced animal shelter manager can best oversee the entire operation. And thank you for caring about the Amsterdam dogs. They deserve a better life than what they have endured.

One more thing, though...

"Regarding vet care any dog from that shelter, I have first hand knowledge that dogs do not get vet care despite what is claimed."

when you went to the Humane Society page, did you happen to notice their on-staff vet performing veterinary care? She checked the dogs Sat., and they're doing fine.

Thursday, May 9 at 9:28 AM - first dogs are posted Thursday, May 9, at 5:39 PM - I posted on Crossroads, and replied to this letter at about that time.

you state this letter was sent on April 10th, yet first comment here is May-05-13, when it was published, here.

No, actually, nothing else.

BillG1224: Here is the link to the Humane Society Facebook page and you will see that the Humane Society did not start posting the Amsterdam Dogs until Thur. May 9 ( *****://****facebook****/pages/Jefferson-County-Humane-Society/159263827002 . Looks like that is within the timeframe of when Laura posted and, you will notice that Laura posts hundreds of dogs on her Crossposting page weekly. The video of the dogs from Amsterdam? She saw it the day it aired on WTOV. Remember her letter was written April 10 and, as I posted earlier, it had to be forwarded back to the Herald Star due to the editor's claim of problems with the e-mail system. Anything else?

BillG....Laura's letter was sent to the Herald Star on April 10. For weeks she and I were never called because i wrote one too. Finally I phoned the editor and he said they were having problems with e-mails coming in. Both letters were resent and Laura's was finally published. Mine had to be edited in one paragraph due to reference to April being Animal Cruelty Awareness month. It was sent again 20 minutes later. Editor calls and asks for removal of WTOV so that was done. Letter not published....because editor claims he did not receive it.

well, that's nice. In the time frame from when we rescued the dogs, they were taken in, and postings were done by both the Humane Society, Cassie, and the Jefferson County Animal shelter... THEN days later I see this letter. Then, I go to her cross postings, where nothing had been posted regarding those animals. In the interest of the animals,I called attention to it, which you can see if you go there. Crosspostings gave me a standard response, then checked, then posted. I wonder where your informing them fits in.

BillG1224: I know Laura Cheng and she was notified on the day of the rescue of those dogs from the Amsterdam home by me. She watched the video. She makes it a habit to contact the shelter in regarding to status of the dogs posted. This was not an intentional oversight on her part (as it seems suggested). I have even seen her posted inquiries. Regarding vet care any dog from that shelter, I have first hand knowledge that dogs do not get vet care despite what is claimed. I sincerely hope those dogs from Amsterdam have been examined and treated by a vet. They deserve that much and more.

They actually posted those after I contacted them on their FB page, mentioning what happened. with time and patience you might have noticed the time stamps.

word in the veterinary community is most likely mistaken, as I have been in contact with the shelter since rescuing those animals, and those particular dogs you named have only been released with a clean bill of health. Others in worse condition are being held and cared for, including the pups that recently birthed.

To BillG1224: Apparently you did not scroll down far enough on the Ohio Shelter Dog Crossposting Facebook page to Thursday 5/9 or Friday 5/10 where I saw a 25 lb. Beagle mix, 3 full-blooded chocolate Labs (2 female/1 male), an 11 mo. old hound named Slash and an 11 mo. old female hound mix named Blossom. There are more that Ms. Cheng listed also from Jefferson Co. Animal Shelter. With time and patience you might have found them. BTW: I hope and pray the unfortunate furbabies that were seized from Amsterdam have been checked by the vet (on paper) to make sure they are healthy and vaccinated prior to being adopted out. Word in the veterinary community is that, unlike most shelters, the dogs in Jefferson County Animal Shelter receive no such care.

I recently had a very good experience with the Jeff. Cty. Humane society and animal shelter. No dogs out of the 40+ rescued from Amsterdam Ohio will be put down, and some are being posted on FB as we speak. Perhaps you should share their posts on your site... I noticed you haven't.
