I usually don't comment but feel the need to. I don't know prosecutor Hanlin and have never met her but I do have a respect for what she's done for the community. She is a tough prosecutor and fearlessly sends those Chicago boys away unlike the previous prosecutor. If she wanted to cover up the rape case she could have filed a lesser charge like simple assault. The boys would of been given probation and the case would of been over before it started. She didn't do that though, she filed very serious charges that come with serious sentences. One year may not seem like a lot but the real punishment is after they get out. No respectable college is going to accept a sexual predator and no respectable company will hire them either. Their lives are ruined as they should be.

It is time to hold the adults who committed wrong doings in this case to be held accountable and to a higher standard. The prosecutor needs to shut up and the coach needs to be fired. The adults who held parties in their home should be charged with contributing to a minor and the sheriff needs to be investigated and cleared of running a gambling ring as he has been accused. It is time to clear house even if it takes down some of the town's "royalty".

Agree w/ all of the above. The more the prosecutor talks through all these interviews, comments, etc. the more I distrust her participation in the case. At first(in august/when rapes occurred) tried to be objective, but the more she yaps about it, despite deflecting blame on certain bloggers, I'm thinking like a lot of others, something pretty hinky about the whole investigatory process that occurred. Hope something good comes out of GJ, but now have considerable doubts, the more she keeps talking. I think in this case she's spinning it out of control. Shouldn't lawyers who rise to prosecutor status be advised by lawyers, too? If she is, I don't think they are advising her too well. Hope the AG and appointed judge for GJ reads the comments here so they get the same vibe as local readers and voters.

Hanlin was Steubenville City Schools former legal counsol and had to resign once the Jefferson County Democratic Committee appointed her as prosecutor by chairman John Abdalla. Yes, the Sheriff's brother.

She travelled to Morgantown, WV to lobby for the charges of mutiple muggings by former Big Red standout Branko Busic. Her son is a member of Big Red's football squad.

She apparently keep changing her stories on this entire debackle. She is the Abdalla Political Machine's protector.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin had said investigators decided to pursue the case even after the victim's father asked that it be dropped,--- The problem with this statement is she never explained why. It seemed she wanted the readers to figure it out themselves. She left out that the parents were told how difficult going forward would be.Parents what would you do?

Her office couldn't take the time to wait on the family because evidence needed to be preserved, she said Wednesday.

"We have to collect all the evidence and do as many interviews as we can before the evidence disappears," Hanlin said.

Interesting statement. I can't help but going back to the cell phones. Victims phone never found, one defendant's phone "lost". All messages and video deleted. Somehow these boys new that they were coming for their phones. I believe some parents were present when the police took the phones. So I have to disagree with her statement. Who tipped them off? Maybe we'

It appeared that the most disgraceful person in this whole episode was the arrogant, pompous strutting coach, who thought himself so much the king that he could shield rapists, if he so decided. Of course, he was empowered by the impotent superintendent and flaccid principal, afraid not only by their shadows but also by the coach. Now they have an equal- a district attorney who it seems is guilty of disclosing private conversations, manipulating them for her benefit and throwing this family under a number of buses. What else is she covering up?

Prosecutor Hanlin - you recused yourself and just do not get it. Rape is Rape, and the victim deserves to have the entire truth including the non-reporters, alcohol party suppliers, and cover uppers brought to justice. Keep your mouth shut and let the grand jury do their job.

Let's hope that all who enabled, empowered, or tried to cover up this crime against this brave young girl will be held accountable. Child sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day. Why was it even necessary for Ms Hanlin to make any statement. She wanted out of the case and she got it.

Now keep your nose out of it. Are you trying to stir up something for some personal gain. Don't know what that would be; but who knows.

What's it all about Ms. Hanlin?
