The 2 teenagers are charged with one felony and 2 misdemeanors and yet they get home detention. Sounds like a slap on the wrist.

What has the community done to apologize and assist the victim and her family? Has anyone offered them a trip to Disneyland? Has anyone written letters of apology? Has anyone done anything to say "we feel your pain and understand your grief but the victim has nothing to be ashamed of." The boys, on the other hand, have much to be ashamed of and I wonder what they have done to apologize and demonstrate they understand what they did wrong.

One more question. Have any of the boys' parents or these girls' parents ever apologized to the victim's family for the deviant behavior of their sons or for the threats their daughters made? Wouldn't that be a sensible thing to do to start the healing process?

Wow bendtheboysover, what would you suggest, sending them to Rikers Island or Sing Sing in New York? Remember, this was a pre-trial hearing, not a sentencing so your "slap on the wrist" remark is premature and uncalled for.

Again we see leniency on a serious crime by a Steubenville Judge. He should have turned this case over to the specially appointed retired judge from Summit County. She would have left those two felons in juvenile detention until their trial. The government leadership like Judge Kerr in Steubenville just doesn't get it - Rape is Rape, and anyone involved in any aspect of this criminal case needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I still want to know why these kids were not charged as adults, and how in the name of God, did they ONLY get a 1 year and 2 year sentence? I know plenty of people who recieved more for 1st time drug possession charges. @Johnson2616 yes, they do deserve that? IF not that, they at least deserve to be in adult prison, no early release for at LEAST 4 years. I mean, they were convicted of RAPE. Plain and simple.

Michael...maybe if you actually took the time to read you would know they were discussing the girls NOT the boys! You would also be aware of certain Ohio law specifications for prosecuting minors as adults. The minors in this case did not fall under those guidelines. The law is the law. It has been explained before but the only thing people read or remember is what they want to and that is usually not facts. Especially when rumors and speculation is much more juicy!

As for the lowlife with the disgusting name...what does the community have to apologize for? The boys and the parents did apologize in court but why would people in the community with absolutely no connection with the case have to apologize about to anyone? Has the media apologized to the victim for running this story nonstop and showing her picture every five minutes? Her home? Repeating lies about what happened to her, making it worse than it actually was? How about releasing her name? Her parents name? Insisting the trial be public when that was not her wish? Maybe some in the community do owe her an apology for being so obsessed with this case that she can't move on or heal in private. But it is mostly out of town people that won't let it go and let her move on...yes, she is owed THAT more than a trip to Disneyland.

shouldnt others have been tried and convicted as co conspirators. This was a premeditated crime, meant to humiliate and abuse the victim for dumping her boyfriend. He set it all in motion by asking his friends to carry out his evil wishes. He should be held as a co conspirator, but I understand he got off in some back room negotiations, which is why the public is so outraged by what is happening in that town.I agree that the Parents of these abusers should be apoligizing for the actions of their sons rather then condoning their despicable deeds.

DogLoverBR: Who is repeating lies about what happened to her??? I haven't heard any and I don't think anyone would need to lie considering how horrible the truth is. The girl was sexually assaulted by more than one boy and humiliated by many others because of the photos. The next time one of these boys pass out from drinking too much, someone should use a broom handle on them and take some pictures just for fun. How would you like that? If the boys can assault the girl, let them experience the pain and humiliation that she feels.
