I'm not sure if "riffraff" Richard watched or attended any of the peaceful rallies, but when I watched there were plenty of people not wearing masks. Furthermore, if you passed a city code like the one he mentions, it would just incite more hatred towards the city officials. And isn't it ironic how he's against masks, however he won't use his last name, because he doesn't want his identity known. Maybe they should pass a code of not being able to speak at a council meeting without stating a last name.

The wearing of masks is protected speech under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

I am sad that this "Richard" thinks that those that are using their constitutional rights are considered "riffraff".

With this hiring policy there are other factors to think about other than just test scores. How well a person performs on paper doesn't always equate to how well they will perform on the job. They've already stated the candidate they hired had on the job experience. Were they to pass him up because someone else scored higher on paper? Most employer hire the candidate that has experience.

I don't think it is fair to point the finger at Anonymous as a whole calling them "riffraff". If I was the victim of an injustice I would want someone to go to bat for my rights as a United States citizens. There are more than likely people within the community that are taking advantage of this situation for their own personal agendas but you can not label all because of a few. Looking at the big picture if Prosecutor Hanlin had failed to file rape and kidnapping charges then there would have been reason to question her motives but she did file felony charges against those two boys and why would she do that if she was trying to cover it up? I would think she wouldn't charge anyone or charge them with something small if she was trying to cover it up. I just highly doubt that there was this systematic process of corruption with the police, sheriff, and prosecutor's office to save two high school kids accused of rape.

Civil service rules allow the interviews of up to 10 people from a list. They do NOT have to be hired in order of finish.

If the first police candidate passed on the job, then the next highest qualified should have been selected, NOT prove the point Ms. Wiggins. Also, it is unfortunate that masked, anonymous independent investigators need to do the job that the City, coaches, parents, law enforcement, WTOV, Herald Star, etc FAILED to do. Plenty of blame to pass around.....Steubenville - you made your you must lie in it, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

Anonymous is not riffraff. They are concerned citizens who seek justice for the victim and punishment for everyone involved in the rape and coverup that followed. The constitution gives Americans the right to assemble peacefully for such events with or without masks. Again we see that another Steubenville citizen doesn't understand that rape is rape and coverup by elected officials and school officials is unacceptable.

"If we came up with a city code against wearing masks maybe we would get rid of the riffraff." Really? THAT is the riffraff we need to get rid of? What about the drug dealers, or those shooting up homes...and people!, or those who sexually assault..?? Isn't that the REAl riffraff we need to get rid of? And so the city needs to move forward and focus on "economic development"... How, exactly, do you expect that to happen when the city isn't safe...from it's OWN residents?!

I've been a Civil Service employee for years and even had a new position defined by the commission after a long battle---once the position was classified as a police records clerk adn a test administered for a list--in order to keep the position I fought for, my superiors cheered me on sayin', "make sure you make the list" point being, once you pass and on the list---they can pick who ever they want, and that's how Civil Service works.

I am not sure anyone is questioning the integrity of the Commission. The test or its procedures are universal.

The actual choice of a candidate is done by a person selecting. It not like a bidding process of picking the lowest bidder, or even selcting someone with the highest scores.

Someone was picked over other possible candidates, and without knowing all the deatils or process that the Chief used, and I am not saying he had to, the possibility of the accusation could be true.

No one questioned his decision when he made it, right?

Can anything be done about our town being invaded by these people. Other states and cities have laws against wearing masks. If we came up with a city code against wearing masks maybe we would get rid of the riffraff. I was born here and I don't like what I am seeing and hearing about my town. I don't want to see my tax dollars spent on security for these rallies,"

The scandal has reduced everyone to name calling: "riffraff".

Real professional. I just think if everyone does their jobs "professionally" and does it in such a manner, there are no questions about ethics or quality of work; it would make us a better pace to live.

All the people on these blogs are wearing masks, per se; should we erase the Amendment that gives us that freedom? Our Constitution is NOT written in pencil like other foreign countries to change day to day depending on whether it gores our ox.

Are there any of those kind of people in the area(riffraff)?
