Pretty strong and defensive sounding words coming from Fred Abdalla. If I were him, I would approach the press more diplomatically rather than claiming that suspicions are "idiotic". Also, you should care what the entire nation thinks. What caused this crime and the reaction too far expands a small Ohio town.

As a result, some have speculated that police were guarding the Big Red football team. On Thursday, McCafferty called that notion "utterly stupid." "That's got to be one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard - that anybody would risk their job to protect a high school football team," he said. "Who would do that?"

Sounds like the new Bishop has a handle on thing sin Steubenville already.

Good choice of words about the silence.

The threatening comments, public posting of personal records, harassment, prank calls, abuse of children by Knight Sec followers, etc. has been documented. After the Truth comes out (and it will), the world will bear witness to the most diabolical episode of cyber lynch mob mentality ever. History will show that a handful of drunk teenagers do not define Steubenville, but the hateful rants of the surrounding towns will define them FOREVER!

The Diocese schools held parent's meetings months ago to address this issue and incident. They discussed it and gave parent's advice on how to talk with their September! Steub City Schools knew there was a threat of this incident getting out of control and chose the most inappropriate way to respond...Silence. It is just now being addressed at a public rally?

The people of Steubenville don't seem to be outraged by the crime -- or by the coverup. They seem to be outraged that a national spotlight now shines on the corruption that is Steubenville. And don't tell me that nobody knows how corrupt Steubenville is. Come on.

I would never allow my children -- male or female -- attend a public school in Steubenville where a "rape crew" wanders the halls confident, aggressive, threatening. They're bullies. Nothing but small-town bullies. Get out the cheerleading squad, Steubenville!

Jonsoft- dude, where can I learn to speak(type) like you? You said about everything I think about this whole situation yet for the life of me, I could never put it so succinct. It would take me three pages.... Well said.

Jacktripper- It is interesting that you are outraged by the media attention and the "postings from one individual" ~knightsec~ YET not outraged about the crime that started all the attention in the first place. If you and your anger were directed at the right people back in August, it more then likely would not have come to this. Enjoy your stew as you muck around in it.

Colkrause- Again, kudos. You said it better then I could have...

Maybe SLIGHTLY paranoid?

You aren't a victim, jackboot. You are a coward who can do nothing more than scream at people who have the nerve to defend a girl who has been raped. You are no victim. Nor is your weepy little town of whacked out isolationists.

Sorry but one poster ****** me off, here is more info for you to thrash---hree Steubenville High School athletes became witnesses for the prosecution and testified against Mays and Richmond, their friends, at a probable cause hearing in October. The crime blogger and more than a dozen people who posted comments on her Web site have been sued by a Steubenville football player and his parents for defamation. The girl’s mother, in several brief interviews last month, said her family had received threats, so extra police officers have been patrolling her neighborhood.

“The thing I found most disturbing about this is that there were other people around when this was going on,” William McCafferty, the Steubenville police chief, said of the events that unfolded. “Nobody had the morals to say, ‘Hey, stop it, that isn’t right.’- What did they do? HIDE IN THE SAND, City bird of STeubenville is Ostrich!!- the police say the city’s drug problems are growing, with ****** addiction #1

I have been told some things of late about how things are done here in Steubenville but I did not know till this week how wide spread it is. Like the bar I can not name downtown by the PD station being a home for bookies. Do people not know that when they play a 3 or 4 number with a bookie that they are taking money from the kids and schools here in this state? Is it true that the people in this area do not care about any thing other than "big red" football? What a shame it is if the things I have been reading in this thread are true. How did the "good" people (I am sure thier are many of those) let this all happen? The good people have things held over their head. If you don't do this, we'll fire your brother who works for the ______ department. If you don't do this, we'll send the building inspector in to harass you and shut you down. If you don't do this, we'll make sure your car gets pulled over every time you go to the store ( This will be real easy now, since

I have lived in 18 cities in 13 states and this is by leaps and bounds the most drug infested crime ridden politically and police corrupted town I have ever seen. Small towns are not supposed to be this bad. Yes big cities have crime and drugs but, it is not all over the city as it is here in Steubenville. They have all of these churches here so where is the morel leadership? Where is the great Franciscan University in the fight against drugs and corruption?

Steubenville has always been known for the crime, corruption, and the MAFIA which breeds more of the same along with drugs, prostituion, and dead bodies floating in the Ohio River. I used to live not far from there. It really is an armpit of Ohio......

I could post lot of links if this text box allowed it. Suffice it to say since Steubenville has been a city, it has been corrupt, NYtimes knows it, Wikipedia touches on it, Ohiovalleynewspaper, pieces read from 2010. Pittsburgh Post GazetteJune 23, 1986 has another article of interest. justice.g0v/crt/about/spl/documents/steubensa.php (change the 0 to an o in c0m) NO Anonymous here!! As I stated... check yourself before tempting the big dogs.. and please take your PROZAC...
