Very True Randall,

We have two big guard dogs outside, a couple noise maker dogs inside, soar motion lights around the house, and alarm system, a 9 mm under my pillow and my wife and I both keep a 12 gauge loaded with 00Buck close by.

What are we afraid of?

I have a couple comments regarding your letter, Mr. Sims. First, I do agree that some gunshot deaths are a result of violence due to hatred. And yes, teaching our children and encouraging adherence to a high moral code helps keep the violence down. But we all know hate is not the only catalyst of gun violence. Mental illness, greed, fear, anger, intolerance, accidents and a host of other conditions also lead to deaths. Eliminating lethal violence is a complex challenge that will require a concerted effort from all of society to solve it, including the religious community, law enforcement, government and the medical fields. Secondly, the list posted in the Journal News was only people licensed to own a HANDGUN. If I were a criminal, I wouldn’t assume that just because an address was not listed, they didn’t own some other sort of firearm. That would be imbecilic.
