Keeping kids safe online

WINTERSVILLE — Students and parents in the Indian Creek Local School District recently took part in an Internet safety presentation thanks to Rick Warner, a special agent in the Computer Crimes Unit for the office of Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray. Warner presented a NetSmartz workshop, which highlights the potential dangers the Internet can offer. According to Warner, young people are getting out into the world through laptops, cellphones and gaming systems. “Gaming systems are probably the most dangerous of these three things because of the private headsets you can use,” he said. “Parents may never know who is talking to their kids over these headsets or what they are saying.” Warner also noted that keeping a computer in an open area of a home is important for any family. “When a computer is in your kid’s room, they are free to visit whatever Web site they choose and talk to whomever they choose,” he sai.

Church hosts bereavement group
A bereavement support group, led by the members of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church at 1085 Canton Road and Charity Hospice Director Debbie Yoklic, meets at 11 a.m. the third Thursday of each month.
Dinner aids Big Brothers, Big Sisters
WINTERSVILLE — The fifth-annual Pasta Dinner set Sunday at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church will benefit the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Jefferson County.
The dinner will begin at noon and last until 6 p.m.
