Pupils get taste of the arts

PERFORM?AT?WAYNE – Performers from the Oglebay Institute’s Youth Ballet Company brought snowflakes and other characters from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” to life when they performed for pupils Dec. 19 at Wayne Elementary School in Bloomingdale.
BLOOMINGDALE — Pupils at Wayne Elementary got a taste of the performing arts on Dec. 19, as the Oglebay Institutes’s Youth Ballet Company traveled to the school to perform “The Nutcracker.” “This is something they do, not just for our school, but for others,” Wayne Principal Cecilia Fritz said, noting the young performers, ranging between ages 6 and 18, have paid a visit to the school in previous years. The traveling, one-hour performances are made possible through the JPMorgan Chase Bank Reach Award, Fritz explained. Various schools throughout the Tri-State Area are selected through the award program, which pays the $300 fee required to have the Oglebay dancers travel to perform, Fritz noted. Wayne Elementary was the only school within the Indian Creek Local School District to receive the award this year, according to Cheryl Pompeo, Oglebay Institute of Dance director. “We’ve done 23 performances this year,” Pompeo said. “We travel to schools, nursing homes and have our own Tow
