School District is moving ahead

TORONTO — The city school district is moving ahead with plans to construct a new building and will be putting the issue before city voters in the fall election. Planning for a new structure will include teams studying needs of the district, determining costs associated with construction, educating the public on the options — including what the city’s cost portion would be — and putting a measure up before voters on the November ballot, according to Fred Burns, district superintendent. “Last year we needed to pass a replacement levy, so we decided to delay our new building project,” said Burns, adding the replacement levy proposal passed with solid citizen support. “Once the levy passed we realized it was a great opportunity to get back into the (state) pipeline to be considered for funds for construction of a new building.” Burns said district officials met Feb.
