Are you ready for some football?
For as long as I can remember, I have been a hockey fan. I guess you could say (and a few ex-boyfriends would likely confirm) that I was born with ice in my veins. Nothing could compare to the atmosphere the sport offered – the sound of the blades cutting into the ice, the cool chill in the air when sitting next to the glass, the hits, the speed and the sound of 16,000 Penguin fans throwing their fists in the air for a collective “hey” seconds after seeing that beautiful red light above the goal judge light up like a Christmas tree. Such an atmosphere was impossible to match...or so I thought. It wasn’t until I began my stint as a sports writer that a truly was able to experience high school football. The hits, I discovered, were just hard. The speed was just as impressive. The late-autumn air just as cool as the rink side breeze and, given the right circumstances and the right matchup, the roar of thousands of fans could be heard.
