West Lib student starts Miss Ohio tour
A Woodsfield woman who attends West Libety State College is starting a whirlwind year after being crowned 2008 Miss Ohio Scholarship Program on Saturday evening in the Renaissance Theater in Mansfield. Karissa Martin, the 20-year-old Miss Clayland and daughter of Ron and Sheila Martin, started the pageant out on the right foot when she won the first phase talent award on Thursday evening when she preformed the Broadway vocal “The Girl in 14G.” She then snagged the swimsuit competition phase on Friday night. “It was all very exciting,” she said. “This is something I have dreamed of since I was a little girl. I would watch the pageant and wear my little tiara and dream about being up on that stage someday. It is a dream come true.” Karissa, a music and theater communication major, credits her vocal teacher’s fiance for encouraging her to participate in Miss Ohio. “She told me it was a great opportunity,” Karissa said. “And it is.
