Look, ma! 45 mpg and no hybrid technology!
July 25, 2013 - Paul Giannamore
Day 2’s version of Tours Put Together by The Boss (at Home) That Don’t Involve Flying or Overnight Hotel Stays took us to Holmes County for one of our periodic Amish Country Ohio days.
Yes, we ate all too well. Yes, we bought too much cheese. And fudge. And a pie.
No, you can’t have any.
And yes, it means I have to work it all off in the gym next week.
If you’ve been out to Berlin, Ohio, and Sugarcreek and their environs, you know it’s about peaceful shopping and eating and exploring new stores and old favorites with your family or your sweetie. It was all of that.
But it was a personal record-setter for me. Mr. Sulu, The Boss’ trusty year-old Honda Civic, panned by the idiot auto magazines as being somehow less than a Civic, hit an indicated 45 mpg for the trip home with me driving. That’s 45 mpg. In a car capable of hauling four adults who have just eaten at an Amish restaurant and a lot of cheese. And fudge. And a pie. In air-conditioned comfort. With a good stereo. And retina-searing headlights as standard equipment.
It’s no hybrid. It doesn’t shut down at traffic lights. It’s not electric, exotic or anything else. It’s just a well-engineered aerodynamic lightweight little sedan.
The feds didn’t pay for it, give us a tax break for it or design it.
Enough of that for ya?
