The Dark Knight Rises - Film Location News

April 7, 2011 - Brandi Bowers

Well, here's my second update on The Dark Knight Rises. Are you ready for it? The third film in the Batman series will be filmed in PITTSBURGH!!! That's right girls, Christian Bale will be less than an hour away. Excited?! I know I am! Pittsburgh has been the backdrop for a lot of movies, especially recently (see Love and Other Drugs with The Dark Knight Rises star, Anne Hathaway). We've even had two movies filmed right here in the Steubenville/Weirton area: Unstoppable & Super 8. Having movies made in this area is one of the best things that could happen! It brings a lot of needed business and interest to the area.

So back to The Dark Knight Rises, it was confirmed on Tuesday that the movie will, in fact, be filmed in Pittsburgh. And, Courtesy of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette: The Dark Knight Rises" is coming to the city to film the third installment in Christopher Nolan's franchise starring recent Oscar winner Christian Bale in the title role. The city's architecture and diversity of locations helped to lure the production here. "Pittsburgh is a beautiful city," the London-born director said in a statement. "We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman."

The Dark Knight (the second movie in the series) is the third highest grossing film of all time (with only James Cameron's Avatar & Titanic in front of it). Of course, that was in part due to the passing of Heath Ledger and the buzz about his performance in the film. The Dark Knight Rises promises to be just as big, however, with its star-studded cast. In addition to Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman & Michael Caine returning, this third film will welcome Anne Hathaway (as Catwoman), Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt & possibly Marion Cottilard (still not definite). Director Christopher Nolan has already been welcomed by Pittsburgh officials. Filming is set to take place Downtown and in surrounding areas this summer!
