Rally in Death Valley
September 19, 2010 - Mike Mathison
No one should be surprised that Big Red's game with Morgantown in Saturday's Rally in Death Valley has been moved to the opener. It should have been the opener all along.
The contest between St. Ignatius and Don Bosco is the national television draw, but Fox Sports wanted the stands to be close to full for that contest. That wasn't going to happen with it being the opener at noon.
So, a smart decision was made, although about a month too late.
The Big Red-Morgantown affair will kick off Saturday's activities at 1 p.m. at Harding Stadium and the Ignatius-Bosco encounter will go at 4 p.m., ensuring a pretty good crowd because the Big Red fans will already be in attendance.
The nightcap between Wheeling Central and Bridgeport should also be a dandy -- two small OVAC schools getting after it at 7 p.m., although I doubt that game will start on time.
Should be a really good Saturday of football.
