September 9, 2010 - Brandi Bowers

It's that time of year again, time for the MTV Video Music Awards! But what year is it? It's 2010 and correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think MTV played music videos anymore. So how exactly can they still have an award show honoring them? As a huge music & music video fan, I think this is absolutely ridiculous!

I give props to the channel for being able to keep up with the times and the trends, but I have no respect for the fact that they've gotten so far away from what they set out to be. The name is Music Television, but where is the music??? It's basically a mixture of "reality" shows... Jersey Shore, The Real World, True Life, Teen Mom.

Ok, so I'm a fan of Jersey Shore, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see music videos on the music video channel. I think that if they think it's important enough to continue awards ceremonies, they should actually continue to play music videos throughout the year, and not just at 3am when they have nothing else to show.

On the bright side of this year's award show, I do think it will be worth watching. There's a good mixture of pop, rock & hip hop with the performers, which include Drake, Eminem, Justin Bieber (not my pick, but I can hear all the pre-teen girls screaming already), & Linkin Park & Paramore (two of my favorites). There are even more scheduled, unfortunately, no Lady Gaga this year.

There are also some good presenters lined up, including the casts of Glee & Jersey Shore. And I'm most excited to see that Chelsea Handler is hosting. If you're not familiar with Chelsea, she's a pretty funny comedian with a late night talk show on E! called Chelsea Lately.

If you're planning on watching the show, it's this Sunday, September 12th at 9pm. Seeing as how that's the True Blood season finale, I'll catch the awards one of 50 times it will be replayed in the following week. You know what I mean, they replay everything so much & it's just more time that could be filled with music videos. Think about it.
