Beer is tempting

September 8, 2010 - Paul Giannamore

As part of my 11 months since I was diagnosed as having a potentially killer fatty liver, I not only dropped a bunch of weight but also gave up all beer and tobacco products in addition to watching what I eat

As the blood has become cleaner and the fat has burned off and the liver functions have gone from horrid to stellar, I've gradually introduced the concept of moderation, but I have had exactly one beer in 11 months.

I was never a major beer drinker, preferring to taste different beers once in awhile to buying a six every pay.

So, it seems appropriate that I have volunteered for duty Friday at the opening of the first Friendship Wine and Food Festival to staff the beermeisters. I will be accompanying Tracee Joltes of Eastern Gateway Community College Friday afternoon and early evening at Friendship Park.

As I told Ed Looman when he solicited volunteers for the beer tent: Who better than somebody who really cannot drink much beer anymore.

That was before I heard the beer list from Bob Chapman of Choice Brands.

Must. Resist. Beer. Temptation.

After all, I'm studying for a blood test next week.

See you at the festival.
