Scream 4 Update
August 26, 2010 - Brandi Bowers
Recently I blogged at how excited I was to hear that they were making a Scream 4. The original is one of my favorite movies and I think really reinvented the horror scene in the 90s. In fact, it did so well, it turned into a trilogy. Well, this week's Entertainment news is that production is rolling along nicely and two more fairly big name actresses have been added to the cast of this 4th movie.
Kristen Bell (of Veronic Mars & Forgetting Sarah Marshall) & Anna Paquin (of my favorite show, True Blood) will now be a part of the Scream franchise. It's not yet known what their parts will be, but they are rounding out the cast nicely.
When I last blogged, it was only known that the previous main characters, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox Arquette & David Arquette, were returning. Also added is Adam Brody (The OC), Emma Roberts (Aquamarine), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Alison Brie (Community & Mad Men), Marley Shelton (Grindhouse & Sin City), Anthony Anderson (Scary Movie 3&4 & The Shield), Rory Culkin (The Zodiac), Marielle Jaffe (Percy Jackson), Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Gallactica), Nico Tortorella (Make It or Break It), & Erik Knudsen (Scott Pilgrim).
The movie is being shot in & around Ann Arbor Michigan. Wes Craven is directing this one as well, & Kevin Williamson wrote the script (just like the original). The expected release date is April 15, 2011.
Synopsis as follows (from IMDB):
"Ten years after the murders, Sydney has become a successful writer publishing her first book,"Out of the Darkness" based on her story. With Gail's help, the book becomes a huge success. Gail meanwhile has become a very successful tv host while husband Dewey continues in law enforcement. Gail and Dewey also have a 10 year old daughter, Tatum, after Dewey's sister. When Sydney's book tour goes through Woodsboro, she asks Gail and Dewey to join her. There she connects with her aunt and cousin (Jill). Only the homecoming turns out to be deadly as ghostface returns to start a new trilogy. Who will survive?"
So what do you think? Will a movie like this work a decade later or should they leave it alone? I'm excited to see it, but I know when I get my hopes up about things being remade or added on, it doesn't always work. Guess we'll see.
