Consider reading the greatest self-help book ever, the Bible

While I was browsing in a couple of bookstores, shortly before Christmas, my desire was to find a book I knew my wife would like. (No, that’s not all I bought for her, but let’s continue this thought).

During my search, to my amazement, I found large sections of books dealing with “self help.” With all those books on that topic I could help a ton of people with their problems. So, as I digressed from the mission of finding my wife a present, I started browsing through the shelf of books. You could say I helped myself to the self-help books.

Anyway, each book had different ways to consider your situation. Some simply were in direct opposition to one another. I was beginning to realize these self help books weren’t helping me, so how would they help anyone else.

The wisest man in the Old Testament was King Solomon. He wrote “… of making many books there is no end and much study is wearisome.” Ecc. 12:12. Knowing this, my thoughts were turned to why someone would want a self-help book when we have the written word of God, which we refer to as the Bible.

Considering the answers to help all of us, let’s just consider the first verse, Genesis 1:1. Dealing with the topic of creation, man has discovered there are five items needed — time, force, action, space and matter. These necessary forces for creation were articulated by man, while the very first verse of the Bible reveals what man finally discovered.

I’m hoping that you will also begin searching the riches of God’s word to discover that this book is all you need. By the way, the book says this: “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” II Peter1:3.

As you become more intrigued about how this message is changing your life, remember this: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13.

Read your Bible and pray every day, then you’ll grow, grow, grow. May God bless and lead you in your study of his word. Please, help yourself to the greatest self-help book ever written.
