Progressives promote lies

To the editor:

All we need to know of the “progressive” ideology is the fact that they joyously celebrate the election of some of the most hardened demagogues and most obstinate apostates; those who glory in the promotion and torture and murder of the God-given miracle of life, both new and aged. The creator’s gift of life is not to be judged by its utility or convenience. The fallacious claim that “it’s my body and I have every right to terminate my pregnancy” is put to the lie by pronouncement from the ancient of days to the prophet Isaiah: “Everyone who is named is mine, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isaiah, 43:7)

Life, especially the most innocent and helpless, deserves to be protected and cherished, from the moment of conception until natural death. Almost every other country esteems the aged as a source of wisdom; this country’s progressives desire to be rid of them as a burden on the economy. Paraphrasing author Michael Kelly, we are to love people and use things, not love things and use people.

Experience from the previous administration shows a “progressive” proclivity for dictatorial relativism; using the power of the state to force conformity with one’s own personal belief, not according to, and even in violation of, constitutional law. “Far too many people want to make everybody see through their own eyes; folk who carry everything to extremes.” (St. Louis DeMontfort, “The Secret of the Rosary,” No. 48) The country suffered a period where all were required to support the abomination of abortion and the promotion of euthanasia. Ignoring the First Amendment, the government decided who, if any, would be allowed to follow their deeply held religious belief.

The socialist progressives do not allow that there is a divine law that supersedes any made by man and marginalize any who so believe. Thus their idols are only those who are rabidly secular and wield government power according to the whim of the moment. They, as their socialist predecessors, wish to quell those who do not worship the state and who realize “their idols are empty wind.” (Isaiah 41:29)

In 1999, author Matthew Kelly wrote of the five historical signs of a declining civilization. They are the increase in sexual promiscuity; political undermining and disintegration of family values; cultural destruction of the family unit; the killing of the innocent; and a radical increase in non-warfare violence (“The Rhythm of Life.”) Are there any of the above signs that are not part of the “progressive” agenda?”
