Cordray-Sutton deserve vote

To the editor:

Richard Cordray and Betty Sutton are candidates for governor and lieutenant governor of Ohio. They deserve our votes.

Cordray defended public employee and teacher pension funds, opposed bid-rigging and protected consumers from fraudulent big business practices. Sutton, the daughter of a librarian and a boilermaker, played a key role in preserving Ohio’s car industry and getting Iraq and Afghanistan veterans their fair pay. She has been a friend of small business and no friend to unfair trade politicians. Being from a family of eight probably inspired her efforts for children’s health insurance.

Action, not words, on behalf of regular folks makes Cordray-Sutton a great choice for Ohio

John Kasich was not a strong advocate for the Ohio Valley. He is not on the ballot, but the Mike DeWine-Jon Husted ticket is merely a reshuffle of that administration. DeWine’s “half-truth” attack ads against Cordray are another negative in his column. The rape kit ad is particularly disturbing. It implies that Cordray knowingly ignored thousands of untested kits, then DeWine swooped into office and fixed everything. Here’s the rest of that story.

Cordray replaced another attorney general in 2009. In 2010, he learned about the many untested kits scattered throughout the state. With five months left in office, he had completed putting together a commission that instituted consistent statewide protocols and provided DNA lab equipment to address the backlog. When DeWine took office, he inherited the new and improved system.

Am I thankful DeWine continued to build on the work begun by Cordray? Absolutely. Every man, woman or child who has been a victim of sexual assault deserves justice.

Before deciding who to vote for, it is important to try to know the whole story. With the Fairness Doctrine, truth in advertising and investigative journalism going the way of the slender-billed gackle, voters are left to become amateur sleuths. Sad.

I really miss Paul Harvey.
