Many questions surround Trump

To the editor:

I have some things on my mind regarding President Donald Trump that I want to talk about. On July 16, watching Trump on TV at a news conference with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Trump’s comments were alarming: “I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today (that Russia meddled in the 2016 election.) He just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be Russia.”

Back to the Obama presidency in 2016, it was found that Russia meddled and since 2017, various government intelligence agencies have investigated and concluded it was Russia.

Ever since Trump took office, he has been questioning the validity of various intelligence reports.

The next day on TV, Trump said he misspoke and corrected the initial remarks. In Helsinki, with off-the-cuff remarks, were his authentic response. The next-day correction was to save himself. Trump has praised Putin even before the election as a good and strong leader. Trump was supporting Putin who with his representatives meddling in our election threatens our democracy. Considering the danger to our democracy from Russia, we U.S. citizens have a right to know what was said in the two hours of private talks between Trump and Putin.

Before Trump met with Putin, he went to England to meet with Prime Minister Theresa May. He has no sense of good public relations with our traditional allies. He insulted May before meeting with her and saying that another government official (who had just resigned) would have been a better PM than May. Also previously, he had blamed the mayor of London for terror attacks that occurred there.

The British people rightly expressed their displeasure with Trump’s visit with massive numbers of persons turning out to protest. The aerial view showed the streets of London filled. And the most impacting aspect of the protest was a giant balloon figure of a baby in a diaper with Trump’s head on it. That depicted Trump very well representing him as the tantrum-taking baby that is characteristic of his tweets insulting all kinds of people.

Last spring, when Trump declared zero-degree tolerance of illegal immigrants at our southwest borders, he made an order to incarcerate the parents and take the children away from them and put the children in shelters. They were even sent to different parts of the United States. Then, he unjustly blamed it on Democrats, as he blames everything. That was an act of extensive child abuse by Trump and human rights abuses of the parents. Those children and parents might never recover from the trauma. It has been a mess trying to reunite the children with the parents, and some might never be reunited.

Trump created a tragedy for thousands of persons. This is the president who many evangelicals and other religious Christians had a big hand in electing.

I hope that they are praying for positive changes in Trump’s behavior.
