There really is something there

To the editor:

Donald Trump refuses to defend our country. He only protects his own interests. Our intelligence agencies concluded that we were attacked by a hostile foreign power, using information warfare. Trump responded by attacking our intelligence agencies. Experts are telling us that Putin, the old KGB colonel, used a Soviet-style disinformation campaign to influence our election. The Russians conducted a psy-op to sow discord, by exploiting our differences; a classic divide and conquer strategy, but online. It’s an ongoing attack. Why would they quit? It worked, and they’ve suffered no consequences.

It’s apparent that Putin’s puppet has been installed to undermine our institutions, and help Russia diminish our standing and influence around the world. Trump criticizes just about everybody, but praises Putin. He said he believed Putin, rather than U.S. intelligence, when Putin denied interfering in our elections. Trump wouldn’t even sign the sanctions bill that both houses of Congress voted for overwhelmingly, more than a year ago. It recently came out that there’s a second, unpublished, Steele dossier claiming that Rex Tillerson was chosen as Secretary of State over Mitt Romney, because Putin wanted him.

Trump is obviously feeling the pressure, as the special counsel’s investigation closes in on his inner circle. His behavior became more erratic, as he lost some of the people that he trusted, and depended on the most. Trump is constantly trying to distract us by creating chaos. He acts like a guilty man with a lot to hide. If this was a hoax, made up by Democrats, to explain Hillary Clinton’s election loss, the investigation would’ve already come to a dead end. A which-hunt wouldn’t involve so many indictments, guilty pleas and cooperating witnesses.

It’s time for Republicans to stop protecting Trump and put country over party. It’s getting harder for Trump’s supporters, and those who benefit from him staying in power, to dismiss and rationalize the daily revelations. We can’t expect to know about all of the evidence that Mueller has, but we do know that this is a rapidly developing, complex story. Since it involves so many people and incidences, not just in this country, but around the world, clearly the investigation isn’t going away, or ending soon. Anybody who still thinks that there’s nothing there, is either in denial, or not paying attention.
