Support shows family not alone

To the editor:

In life sometimes, an event takes place that leaves us feeling confused, afraid and alone. Our family experienced one of these types of events this past August when our son, Rich Brandt, had a swimming accident. This accident resulted in numerous injuries, including a complete spinal injury and broken neck, which left him a quadriplegic.

In a time where most people would lose faith in everything they knew, ours grew. This is because in the Ohio Valley when someone falls on times like these, you all have shown us that we are not alone. The words thank you will never encompass what so many of you have given during this time.

To those of you who spent so much of your time planning his benefit, you have touched our hearts and Betsy and I thank you. To those of you who gave so abundantly and freely to Rich’s medical expenses, we are forever grateful. To those of you who donated items, food and your place of business to help make his benefit a success, you are so appreciated, and we thank you.

In a time where we should have been questioning everything we knew, each one of you were truly blessings, and we are so humbled and grateful to live in a place full of so many loving, generous, compassionate and caring people.
