Laman party just around the corner

To the editor:

This is just a reminder that the 39th-annual Ray Laman Christmas Party will be held at the Wintersville Fire and Rescue garage from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 16. Children must be accompanied by an adult. They will be entertained with a sing-along with Kenny Wells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, elves and Mrs. Claus before the arrival of Santa. After the party, Santa and his helpers also visit the pediatrics ward at Trinity Medical Center West, surprising the sick children unable to attend the party.

This is one of the largest community events in the area for children under the age of 10 and is open to neighboring areas, not just Wintersville. We are a nonprofit organization that is funded solely through donations of area merchants and caring citizens. For some children, this is their only Christmas, so we try to keep the gift bags nice and plentiful. This is getting harder to do, as annual costs keep rising.

We urge everyone reading this to open their hearts and wallets for the area children. Without your generosity, this event would not be possible. We do not want to cut back on the size, quantity or quality of the gifts.

Donations and comments can be sent to the Ray Laman Children’s Fund, 60 Pioneer Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953; the Winterville Police Department, 200 Grove St.; or me, at (740) 264-2161.

Donations must be received by Dec. 14 to make the program. May this year’s event make the holidays happy for a lot of area children.
