Energy investment good news for area
To the editor:
The recent announcement that China Energy Investment Corp. Ltd., will invest $83.7 billion in West Virginia is exciting news for the state. It is also thrilling news for those of us who live just across the Ohio River and are proud to be part of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
At Marietta College, we graduate some of the nation’s top petroleum engineers who are successful in our region, nationally and internationally. We also have outstanding programs in geology and land and energy management.
We tell our current students and those considering Marietta, that if they are seeking maximum impact on their career and community, Marietta College is the right place to earn their education and their degrees. This wonderful news will help us drive home that point even more. Our expert faculty and our exceptional students are driven and inspired to help lead the West Virginia community on this journey to a very promising future.
Last, I want to applaud West Virginia leaders — Gov. Jim Justice, Commerce Secretary Woody Thrasher and Economic Development Director Kris Hopkins — for their guidance on this monumental announcement. This investment in the state and region will positively change the future of West Virginia and those of us who are proud to be their neighbors.
All of us at Marietta College and others in the Mid-Ohio Valley are ready and excited to do our part to ensure this great success story of 2017 and beyond.
