Efforts are very appreciated

To the editor:

After the shooting on Aug. 21, many people pitched in to help. In our thank-you letter published in the Herald-Star on Sept. 10, Lisa and I made an attempt to express our appreciation to those who helped us through this event (“Judge, family offer thanks to our community.”) Unfortunately, we were unaware of, and missed, a very important person.

David Reed of the Jefferson County IT department, who is a volunteer firefighter and was the very first person to administer first aid. He applied direct pressure to the entrance and exit wounds to minimize blood loss. He continued aid until the EMTs arrived and took over.

Although this thank you is belated, David’s efforts did not go unappreciated. Thanks, again, to all who helped.
