Starkdale church thanks community

To the editor:

The outreach committee of Starkdale Presbyterian Church would like to thank our local Dollar Tree Store for the privilege of distributing school supplies to our local elementary schools. We would also like to thank the local Dollar Tree patrons for their generosity, which provided countless local students with much needed supplies for the school year.

For the ninth consecutive year, Dollar Tree stores throughout the nation sponsored the Back-to-School Brigade, a nationwide school supplies collection and distribution campaign which is a program of Operation Homefront. This program especially targets the children of military families around the nation by presenting the school supplies to military bases for distribution to children of families on those bases.

Since we do not have a local military base, Starkdale Presbyterian Church was asked to distribute the collected supplies to children of military families and needy children. Thirty-nine boxes totaling 2,100 items were collected from the Steubenville Dollar Tree store. We chose to distribute the supplies to the 13 local elementary schools, asking that the military families be considered first and then the neediest children in grades one through three.

On behalf of our committee, our sincere thank you goes out to our generous community.
