Toronto Art Exhibit a success

To the editor:

The art committee would like to thank the artists who displayed their work in the Toronto Art Exhibit held in the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto and sponsored by the Toronto Coalition for Revitalization during the Labor Day Weekend. There were more than 157 pieces of work on display, including paintings and photography. There also were 17 handmade quilts produced by members of the St. Francis Catholic Women’s Club and others and hats, blankets and baby booties created by members of the church’s yarn ministry.

A big thank you is extended to all the exhibitors.

It is estimated that more than 550 people viewed the works of art and many had favorable comments concerning the exhibit.

To those 550-plus people, thank you for stopping by to view the art. We would also like to acknowledge the generosity of those visitors in donating to the Presbyterian Relief Fund for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The art exhibit created an atmosphere of relaxation and a haven from the hustle and bustle of the activities outside the church. A thank you goes out to the organizers and volunteers of the Festival of the Arts for the excellent job of promoting and bringing countless numbers of people to the city of Toronto.

Thank you to the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto for hosting the art exhibit. The church literally turned the assembly hall over to the art exhibit on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in order to prepare for the artists and the subsequent exhibit that followed. Without the cooperation of the church, the exhibit would not have been possible.

Special thanks to Amanda Speece, Chad Brown, Amy Grimm, Karen Grimm, Everett Grimm and Karen Lundquist for their help in setting up the exhibit and taking it down. Thanks to the art judges Gina Judy and Jeannie D’Anniballe for judging the students’ works.

The art committee is planning the 2018 Toronto Art Exhibit. If you have an interest in the arts and would like to display or volunteer call (740) 544-5666 for information.

Members of the art committee are Connie Crawford and Jon Cooper, both retired art teachers who gave of their time, talent and experience to the fulfilment of the exhibit. Thank you to both.
