Students help clean community
To the editor:
I am writing this letter to express the gratitude of the city for the cleanup activities at Beatty Park on April 30.
The ecology, human anatomy and environmental classes at the Franciscan University of Steubenville devoted their spare time to perform this vital service for the community.
The commitment of Eric Haenni and his students, in the fall and spring, to conduct this activity during busy times in the semester is inspiring to see.
It is remarkable that you have organized this for three years, with more than 125 citizens who are, in actuality, temporary residents of our fair city.
I hope that this continued effort inspires other community groups and the entire student body of the university to continue to make this a worthwhile annual tradition. This type of community collaboration strengthens our common goal of making Steubenville a city to be proud of and a community capable of renewal and partnership.
I look forward to working with you and your students to return the waterways and trails at Beatty Park to cleaner and safer amenities for members of the community to enjoy.
