Terrorists need no army

To the editor:

Republican John Kasich, another war party candidate for president, wants to try a George W. Bush approach to defeat ISIS. Get in, get out, he says – 12 years later and we are still there.

Troops on the ground: Sorry folks, 30,000 troops on the ground or 100,000 troops on the ground will result in thousands of more casualties and will not eradicate terrorism.

One person can frighten a nation – two are are uncontrollable. Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, destroyed a building, killing 160 men, women and children with a load of fertilizer. Some folks can make some sort of explosive out of cleaning fluids under your kitchen sink. One terrorist with a suicide vest can kill hundreds, as witnessed in Paris, Brussels and San Bernardino, creating extreme fear in the populous. Terrorists need no army, just an unacceptable motive.

Search and destroy with a small elite force is the best method to defeat terrorists.

For all of the neocons who want to put 30,000 troops on the ground, maybe we should reinstate the draft and see if they still agree it’s a good idea to send their children to war.

What good is history, Korea, Vietnam and G.W. Bush’s pre-emptive attack of Iraq? One thing we should have learned from history is that even if armies are winning, when they get tired of killing and being killed, the nation suffers horrific consequences.

When is the last time you patted a soldier returning from the Middle East on the back and asked how it was over there?

How about now? No thoughts of suicide or worse since coming home. Just settle back into your old day job and try to forget.

I don’t think so.
