Let’s rebuild our nation

To the editor:

In the course of normal human events, rational, clear-thinking people who make big mistakes learn from the negative results of those mistakes and don’t make the same mistakes again. “Burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice, shame on me.” But these are not normal, or rational, times that we live in.

Those who got us into the Iraq war, with the outright lies about weapons of mass destruction, mushroom clouds, mobile labs, long-range missiles and bases for terrorists are at it again. The very same people who are responsible for the deaths of 4,400 American troops, and the wounding of 32,000, want us to believe their lies a second time. Have we learned nothing?

These profiteers and ideologically bankrupt politicians would like to see us send our military back into the God-forsaken hellhole, and do it all over again. People like Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, Condoleezza Rice and Paul Wolfowitz have blood on their hands and hatred in their hearts. They have no credibility as advisers, none at all. Yet, many have shown up on talking-head shows on television and radio and have the backing of the extremist wing of the Republican Party.

Some of them, and their brain-dead followers, want boots on the ground. Well, let them put on the boots and put them on the ground in Iraq. They need to put their blood in the sand, not the blood of real patriots. Put up or shut up.

Those countries in and around Iraq have been killing each other for 3,000 years. We’ve spent $2 trillion trying to bring democracy to them, and they’re at it again. It’s been a total waste of time and money. No more experiments in nation building – enough is enough.

Let’s rebuild our own nation – God knows, it needs it.
