Support makes scholarships possible

To the editor:

In early April, the Lucas D. Sedgmer Memorial Scholarship Committee hosted a fundraiser to benefit the scholarship that is given each year to a graduating Ohio Valley Athletic Conference wrestler and to members of the Harrison Central High School graduating class.

Many individuals and businesses work together to support the scholarship yearly by donating or contributing to the fundraising events.

Thanks are extended to each and every one who supports the memorial scholarship which was established 11 years ago when Lucas died in a tragic traffic crash along with three other individuals. At the time of his death, several friends and family members created the scholarship to honor him.

In awarding this year’s scholarships, the committee has now presented 58 monetary awards in his memory.

The 2014 OVAC wrestling scholarship was presented to Blaine Cline of Edison High School.

Harrison Central High School students receiving the 2014 honors include Abby Dodds, Dalton Rutter, Paige Dunlap, Kara Dunfee, Nick Staten, Michelle Zende, Jesse Ledger and Raven Cruze.

We congratulate all these students and thank all those who have made it possible for the committee to make it all possible.
