JVS deserves support on May 6

To the editor:

It is a pleasure to write a letter of support for the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School 0.5-mill renewal levy, Issue 3 on the May 6 ballot – no new taxes.

As a former diversified health technologies teacher at the JVS, I know firsthand what a wonderful opportunity the school is to aspiring students in the health field as well as the other 14 programs of instruction. Students receive a quality education in health technologies with real-life experiences, including clinical visits to local medical facilities. Health tech students can choose from a variety of medical areas for shadowing experiences such as dentist’s offices, nursing homes, medical centers, etc. As a former teacher, I know that JVS students can earn valuable certificates in first aid, nurses aide and pharmacy tech. In addition, JVS students can take post-secondary option courses while enrolled at the JVS and enter college with college credit.

My husband and I are business owners – we know that students from the JVS have the right attitude and the occupational and employability skills that make them valuable to employers.

You can count on a quality education at the Jefferson County Vocational School. Please support Issue 3, the Jefferson County JVS 0.5-mill renewal levy – no new taxes. The students of the JVS will benefit because of your vote supporting their training.
