Many helped with Toronto event

To the editor:

I would like to recognize and thank those who participated in the fourth-annual Campbell-Dickinson St. Patrick Bike, Run, Walk in Toronto for the Trinity Foundation-Cancer T.E.A.R. Fund and the Toronto Coalition for Revitalization.

Thanks to the nearly 1,500 bikers, runners, walkers, baby strollers, etc. who took part. They turned a chilly and somewhat cloudy day into one which filled our hearts with sunshine and warmth. Ages of the participants ranged from 1 to 85. Participants came from six states.

Thank you, Jenny Dickinson and Patricia and David Campbell, wife and son of William “Pat” Campbell, for their endorsement of the event and the inspiration they provided.

Sincere thanks and appreciation to Susan Miller, oncology patient advocate of the Teramana Cancer Center, for enduring countless phone calls and e-mails asking her advice and counsel.

To Chief Clark Crago and the personnel of Toronto Emergency Medical Services, I cannot express enough my appreciation for the services they provided and for the use of their building.

Recognition needs to be extended to Mayor John Geddis, Service Director John Hanna, police Officer Larry Fogel and those who worked under their direction.

Kathy Musso, director of the American Red Cross, Jefferson County Chapter, and volunteers deserve thanks for providing water at the halfway point of the 5k.

The countless volunteers who gave of their time without question are to be thanked, especially the student nurses from the Trinity School of Nursing.

Special thanks to our media partners, the Herald-Star, Wheeling Intelligencer, The Weirton Daily Times, the East Liverpool Review, WTOV-TV, WCDK-FM and Comcast.

To the business sponsors and the individual sponsors of the bikers, runners and walkers, thank you for the generosity you provided by way of “in-kind” services or financial support. Special thanks to Jenny Dickinson and her friends for the benefit they had in Toronto to raise $6,570 for the T.E.A.R. Fund.

We cannot forget the 16 teams that were formed to join the fight against cancer, including Ben Beating Cancer, Noah’s Warriors, Jefferson County Christian School, Toronto High School, Kickn’ Asphalt, Team Amber/FUS, Valley Hospice, Victory for Vicki, Team UMB, TSON 2014, Devore, Radiation Rangers, Buckeye Local, Pearson/DiCarlo Posse, Barbe Family, Night Owls and Team Nelson.

Toronto Masonic Lodge 583 provided, by donation, hot dogs and soup to the participants. From the proceeds the Masons gave $750 to Noah Long and his family. The Campbell-Dickinson Bike Run Walk is dedicated to Noah and his sister, Maggie, true heroes in the fight against cancer.

For the third year the St. Baldrick’s Shave Off, organized by Matt Lewis and carried out by Toronto hair dressers, raised thousands of dollars for childhood cancer research in honor of Noah Long and Conner Sacrapanti

The fifth-annual event will be held on March 14, 2015, the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day, to honor cancer survivors, those fighting the battle and those who have passed due to cancer. You are invited to be part of that celebration.
