Laman party planning under way

To the editor:

It is hard to believe that football season is half over already, colored leaves soon will be raked and the white stuff will be falling from the sky. That only means one thing – that Christmas is right around the corner and we will be in the process of planning the 34th-annual Ray Laman Children’s Christmas Party.

This year’s party will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 14 at the Wintersville Fire and Rescue Garage. Children will be entertained with a sing-along by guitarist Kenny Wells and visited by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, elves and Mrs. Claus until the arrival of Santa.

All children attending must be accompanied by an adult. This party is open to all area children under 10 years of age, and they do not have to be a resident of Wintersville to attend. A free photo with Santa, gender-related gift bags and goodie bags of fruit and candy will be given to children attending following the party.

This is a nonprofit organization and is funded solely through donations of area merchants and caring citizens. Without generous donations, it is hard to fill the gift bags with plenty of toys and goodies for children. This is one of the biggest parties in the community and we strive to keep it a huge success each year. We also visit the pediatrics ward at Trinity Medical Center West, surprising the sick children with a visit from Santa and his helpers, a photo, gifts and a goodie bag as well.

We need volunteers as well as donations. You can contact me at (740) 264-2161, any time, Donations can be sent to: Ray Laman Children’s Fund, 60 Pioneer Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953, or be dropped off at the Wintersville Police Department. We look forward to volunteers and many smiling little faces this year.
