Puskarich reading program a success
To the editor:
The 2013 summer reading program was a big success this year at the Puskarich Public Library in Cadiz. Our theme was “Dig Into Reading.” The children learned about coal mining, terrariums, animals, pirates and a variety of other subjects.
The total books read reached 3,236. The morning group read 1,870 books and the afternoon group read 1,366 books. The top three readers in the morning group included Bianca Garcia (232), William Garcia (207) and Georgia Johnson (172). The top three readers in the afternoon group included Alicia Johnson-Holloway (240), Jason Garcia (214) and Douglas Garcia (149). The winners of the bicycles were Trae Dunfee, Alexandria Clegg, Taylor Cope and Skylar DeMarco. Some of this year’s special presenters included Gold Star Kennel with therapy dogs, the Good Zoo from Wheeling and Harrison Soil and Water, terrariums. The grand finale was held July 24. The children were entertained by the pirate “Captain Jim.” There was a pizza party and prizes for everyone.
The teen-adult group read a total of 179 books. Weekly winners included Kathy Cusick, Andy Toth, Patty Smith, Jennifer Forrester, Patty Demagone, Denise Smith, Genebea Chancey, Barb Cunningham, Scott Forrester, Kay Birney, Sally Merryman, Danielle Forrester, Judy Sproul, Kathy Parish and David Forrester.
