Mothers face a tough job

To the editor:

It’s tough being a mother, carrying a baby for nine months, waiting for its first kick 8 pounds, 17 inches.

Giving birth, the pain endured by a screaming mother. Moments later, the newborn is placed in mom’s arms, bringing tears of joy as it is cuddled to her bosom.

Now comes the beginning of an ongoing adventure in raising the child – First Holy Communion, confirmation, barmitzvah, puberty, senior prom, college, marriage, mom now holding a grandchild – what a trip that’s going to be.

If only it could have been that simple. Many tears, sad and joyfully, flowed. None of the above was a walk in the park, and there were a lot of bumps in the road for moms to endure. Moms are tough and resilient and deserve a special day in recognition of giving birth and raising a child in a special way.

Happy Mother’s Day.
